“This is a reflection of the government’s closure of libraries and a swing toward e books. It is important we all support our local libraries.”

PLR: authors share smaller pot

22 January 2014

Authors have today received their Public Lending Right (PLR) statements for the year to 30 June 2013.

The rate per loan is 6.20p, and the fund is £6.9m, down from £7.08m the previous year.

The PLR office said that it had been able to maintain the 6.20p rate as a result of falling overall loans and of cost efficiencies “over and above the target set for us by the government”.

Two hundred authors, by comparison with 213 the previous year, reached the maximum payment threshold of £6,600. The total fund was shared between 22,372 authors (last year, 23,187).

“PLR funding for 2014-15 and 2015-16 will fall again, to £6.6m.”

I say again – we MUST support local Libraries
