Phil Earle is to move from Bloomsbury in January to join the newly independent David Fickling Books as Sales and Marketing Director.

Earle has been with Bloomsbury since 2012, having joined from Simon & Schuster. His first publishing role was with Random House Children’s Books, which he joined following bookselling jobs with Ottakar’s and WHSmith. He is the author of the YA novels Being BillySaving Daisy, andHeroic.

He said: “I am leaving a terrific team at Bloomsbury, which in my view, speaks volumes about the brilliance of this opportunity. Working with David’s authors in the past – truly great writers like Siobhan Dowd, Philip Pullman and Jenny Downham – was the most rewarding experience of my career, so I’m incredibly excited to be joining DFB at the start of their new publishing journey.”

David Fickling said: “From our point of view, Phil is the perfect combination of author and industry expert, reflecting the dual insights and inspiration of others in our team. His relevant market knowledge and his strong customer relationships fully match our belief in working very closely with all our partners to create excellent books.”
